Here are a few suggestions for some running events taking place this Winter...
3 March 2013 - Lasswade 10 Mile
The Lasswade 10, our annual 10 Mile Road Race will take place at 12.00 noon on Sunday, 3rd March 2013. The race is held over a testing course in Midlothian, however, we endeavour to make this a friendly event and the race attracts runners of all standards. It is also an ideal training run for those contemplating spring/early summer marathons, especially London and Edinburgh.
3 March 2013 - The Meadows Marathon
The Meadows Marathon is a Charity Fun Run, Half Marathon and Marathon organised by the Edinburgh Students' Charities Appeal, with the goal of raising as much money as possible for charity. We're open to anyone who can complete the course (under 16's need to be accompanied by an adult on the day), whether you want to sprint round in your short shorts or lumber round in a sumo suit, we'll do our best to accommodate you. It's a great atmosphere for runners, spectators and volunteers. With music blaring and various forms of entertainment around the course, it truly isn't your average walk in the park.
16 March 2013 - The MIghty Deerstalker 10k
Taking place at Traquair House, Peeblesshire, The best becomes even better. As the flagship event in the Notorious Night Run series, the course will feature all the thrills, spills and hills you’ve come to expect, with regular wettings and obstacles like “The Rack”, “The Scree” and “The Tunnel” to push you to the edge. But, with a cap on entry numbers and new starting waves, we’re more confident than ever that you’ll stagger back, grinning like crazy folk.
Fancy dress is part of the fun, with tweed and tartan at the top of the what-to-wear list. When the gun goes off, a rampage of wool-wearing runners will storm along the tree lined avenues of Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, and towards the many challenges that await them. Whether you sign up to the daylight 5k (and the rest) or the torchlit 10k (and then some), you’ll pit yourself against the landscape of the breathtaking Tweed Valley: followed by our Notorious after-party, with legendary live music and local hospitality, and a comfortable conclusion as you drift soundly away in our onsite camping area.
17 March 2013 - Kilomathon Scotland 2013
There are now three Kilomathon distances to choose from. The 13.1k is an excellent distance for those looking to step-up from a 10k and training for a half/marathon, or looking for a bridging gap between a 10k & a half marathon. The 6.55k is an ideal step-up from a 5k, or as a stepping stone to the 10k distance. The 2.62k junior race is a fun race for kids. Kilomathon Scotland is mostly run on the beautiful Edinburgh cycle path network. See the historic Royal Yacht Britannia, picturesque Victoria Park, enjoy tranquil cycle paths before a fantastic finish in front of the West Stand at Murrayfield Stadium.
27 April - The Stena Drilling Tartan 10k
Organised by Run Balmoral, the measured course of 10K takes you through some beautiful Highland scenery and will be clearly marked and well marshalled. The early part of the course is relatively fast on smooth tarmac, however from approximately 3.5K the course rises quite steeply up through woods of Garmaddie on the estate tracks for approximately 1.2K! We are sure you will enjoy the course which has been voted by Runners World as the most scenic road race in the country, but please don't expect a fast time! Have a good run and study the map for further details.
Another Run Balmoral event, this is a testing 15 mile trail race with magnificent views of the Balmoral Estate. Starting on the Banks of the River Dee the route meanders through a Scots Pine forest then up to the foothills of Lochnager and down again with an interesting sting in the tail. This relative new race is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with Scotland’s runners, including Robbie Simpson (Deeside runners, 2012 winner and a world class hill runner) and Murray Strain (Hunters Bog Trotters, an international orienteer and winner of the 2012 Snowdon Race).
25/26 May - Edinburgh Marathon Festival
The 2013 Edinburgh Marathon Festival will take place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May and will include the following races:
Saturday 25 May - 5k, 10k, Junior race and International Breakfast Run.
Sunday 26 May - Edinburgh Marathon (officially the 'Fastest Marathon in the UK'), Edinburgh Half Marathon and Team Relay.
